Lindsey Vonn Gearing up for a comeback on the slopes.
The Olympic gold medalist plans to rejoin the U.S. Ski Team months after undergoing successful knee surgery and more than five years after announcing her retirement.
“Well, she’s headed to Colorado…” the 40-year-old wrote on Instagram Nov. 14, along with a video of her making her way down the ski slope. “Hope the @usskiteam outfit stays appropriate for #onedayatatime.”
Vonn explained why she decided to return to the sport. “Obviously I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t want to race,” she said. New York Times in an interview published the same day. “I have ambitions. I like to progress quickly. How fast can I progress? I don’t know.”
The athlete continued: “But I’m not going to put myself in a position to fail. My goal is to enjoy this, and hopefully this road will take me to World Cup races. I wouldn’t go back to the U.S. Ski Team if I didn’t have intentions.”
