Jon Stewart opened Monday’s episode of Daily Show by repeating what many viewers were feeling. “It’s been two weeks since the election. It feels like two months,” he said, before adding, “It’s been 15 years since the election.”

The late-night host criticized Democratic leaders for trying to edit media interviews, replaying footage of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Representative Dan Goldman, and Representative Pramila Jayapal. In one clip, Goldman explains how Democrats flipped three House seats and “took back almost everything we lost in 2022,” prompting Stewart to introduce a new segment in the show titled “The Audacity of Adaptation.

Referring to a report on Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) accusing Trump and his transition team, Stewart said: “Even those resisting Trump’s agenda don’t seem to understand who they’re dealing with.” Breaking the law by not signing an ethics pledge.

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again,” Stewart lamented. “The Republicans are playing chess, and the Democrats are in the nurse’s office because they stuck their ball on their thigh.”

Stewart criticized Democrats for trying to play by the rules while the GOP exploited legislative loopholes, using President-elect Donald Trump’s intent to bypass the Senate confirmation process by adjourning Congress and installing his cabinet of fanatical MAGA loyalists through recess appointments.

“This is our government in a nutshell: The rules say: “We can stop it.” Said Stewart: “The loophole says: Fuck this.” “So what’s left for you? The last resort for losers: Customs.

“You guys are the ones who figure out how to get things done,” he continued before referring to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack. [Republicans] Don’t worry about your standards. They will exploit any loophole, even if they have to go through obviously closed windows to do so.

To illustrate his point, Stewart compared the democratic process to getting things done with a needle and thread, and used a donut to show the GOP’s strategy.

“Meanwhile, the Republicans come in, and all they have to do is finger a doughnut,” Stewart joked, before erasing the forlorn doughnut.
