Donald Trump plans to telephone Vladimir Putin to negotiate a ceasefire in Ukraine.although that call has not yet taken place, according to NBC. The US president-elect promised on the campaign trail to “end the war in 24 hours” and the outcome of that statement of intent depends largely on that call.

The winner of the U.S. presidential election, has stated that since his victory at the polls. he has spoken with around 70 world leadersalthough he has not yet included Putin in those calls, according to NBC. “I think we will talk,” he advanced on that television network, in which he did confirm that he has spoken with the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, without giving details about that conversation.

Putin, for his part, has congratulated Trump on his victory in the presidential election and has shown himself to be willing to open negotiations on nuclear disarmament and strategic stability. “Your desire to restore relations with Russia and contribute to ending the Ukrainian crisis, at the very least, deserves attention,” the Kremlin leader noted, referring to Trump.

The Russian president, who had described the U.S. tycoon as a “brave man” and had expressed admiration for his handling of the situation during the assassination attempt in mid-July at a campaign rally in the state of Pennsylvania, he favored holding a phone call with Trump.
