Saturday Night Live’s first post-election show began on a somber note, with Bowen Yang, Ego Nodem, Kenan Thompson and Heidi Gardner taking the stage. “SNL” is a costumed sketch about Donald Trump’s election to a second term. The group took turns talking about how Trump tried to overturn the results of the recent election by force, and how he called for revenge on his enemies.
Nodem said: “For many people, including many people watching this show right now, the results were shocking and even terrifying,” and later noted that now “thanks to the Supreme Court, there are no protective barriers” to his power.
Yang added: “There is nothing to protect people who are brave enough to speak out against them.”
Thompson then said: “That’s why at SNL we like to say to Donald Trump: I’ve been with you the whole time“.
The joke of the segment was revealed when the actors started trying to convince the president-elect that they had supported him all along.
Laughing, Yang said: “We never wavered in our support for you, even when others doubted you.” Thompson added: “Every single person on this platform voted for you,” while Nodim said: “We look at you and say, ‘That’s me.
They were joined by more cast members who wanted to pretend to bow to Trump after years of mocking him.
Colin Jost took the stage and said: “Mr. Trump, Your Honor, we know you say controversial things, but you’re really just telling the truth. And I hate the way the humble media, Michael Che, tries to twist your words.”
“And if we find out that someone here voted for Kamala, we will expose them very quickly,” Yang said. Marcelo Hernandez added: “But the rest of us, salute Trump, we voted for you at least once.”
James Austin Johnson also joined in on the fun with a new Trump impersonation: Jacked Trump.
“That’s right, that’s me, I’m Jack Trump. They finally got the right body. From now on, we’re going to portray Trump in a fun way because, frankly, he’s my hero. And he’s going to be a great president, and eventually a great king. Johnson said: “We love you, my friend,” but when he exited the stage, he was seen rolling his eyes visibly – the only member of the stage who winked at him, while the others played it as seriously as any sketch.
Also making her Cold Open debut was Dana Carvey as Elon Musk, who took the stage wearing a Musk “Dark MAGA” hat, black t-shirt, and jeans. But seriously, I’m running the country now. The United States is going to be like one of my rockets. “It’s super cool and super fun, but there’s a small chance it will explode and everyone will die,” Musk said from Carvey as he jumped up and made a powdered face in the shape of Malik X.
The segment ended with Hernandez appealing to young people who voted for Trump, and then launched into a short rendition of “YMCA” before the assembled gang, essentially the entire SNL cast, launched into “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night Live.” !”
