The president of Vox, Santiago Abascalhas been proclaimed this Saturday as president of the party. Patriotswhich is reflected in the European Parliament in the Patriots Group (Patriots for Europe), the third largest in the European Parliamentand which also includes the formations led by the Hungarian Viktor Orban and the French Marine Le Pen.
This formation (Patriots Party) groups together. formations from 11 European countries and has 86 members in the European Parliament, representing more than 19 million Europeans, being the third largest group behind the European People’s Party and the Socialist Group S & D.
The parliamentary group was born after the European elections last June from an alliance between Fidesz, formation of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán; the far-right Freedom Party of Austria (FPO) and the populist Czech Alliance of Disgruntled Citizens. Also part of this alliance are the French National Grouping of Marine Le Penwhich has been, like Orban, at the Paris meeting where Abascal has been elected president.
As explained by Vox through a statement, the Patriots group is configured as follows. as a fundamental political actor on the stage and the party faces the challenge of consolidating this alternative majority to the traditional coalition of socialists and popular parties.
It is not in vain,” Vox points out, “that four of the parties integrated in Patriots are the winners of the European elections in four member states: France, Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic“.
The Spanish formation stresses that Abascal maintains an “excellent relationship” with other parties and leaders of the American continent which, in his opinion, “will greatly facilitate the lines of common work in defense of the sovereignty and prosperity of nations, mutual respect and the defense of freedom”.
