The Netherlands riot police had to intervene early this morning after numerous attacks by pro-Palestinian demonstrators against Israeli Maccabi Tel Aviv fans in the center of Amsterdam, where the Hebrew team played against Ajax on Thursday.
Dutch television station AT5 has indicated that the disturbances were related to clashes between pro-Palestinian youths and fans of the Israeli club. In fact, the police have tried to keep away from the stadium those who demonstrated chanting ‘Free Palestine’.
Images of the attacks have gone viral through social networks, some of them extremely harshin which some Israeli supporters are beaten unconscious in the street.
According to Dutch media, a dozen arrests have been made in connection with the riots in the early hours of this morning and numerous people have been injured. The information released in the Netherlands indicates that several hundreds of Maccabi fans had gathered at Dam Square in the city center on Thursday afternoon, where there were also pro-Palestine demonstrators, who also came to the Ajax stadium to protest against the presence of the Hebrew club. In fact, the mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema, banned a pro-Palestine demonstration next to the Johan Cruyff stadium because of the risk of trouble.
“Hundreds of Israeli team fans were ambushed and brutally attacked in Amsterdam after the match against Ajax. The mobs chanted anti-Israeli slogans and proudly shared videos of their violent acts on social networks: kicked, punched and even ran over Israeli citizens.. On the eve of Kristallnacht, when Jews in Nazi Germany suffered brutal attacks, it is horrifying to once again witness anti-Semitic violence on the streets of Europe,” the Israeli Embassy in the Netherlands posted in a Twitter message, accompanied by images of the attacks.
