Despite the celebrity endorsement of Kamala Harris, Donald Trump has been declared the winner of the presidential election. His supporters are expected to be thrilled, but many of those who supported Harris (and who support women’s and minority rights) spoke out against the election results.

Cardi B wrote in an Instagram story that showed her face as she listened to the results: “I hate everyone so much.” She also targeted several southern states that swung toward Trump in the Now-Deleted Post on X: “That’s why some states are getting hit by tornadoes.”

Bette Midler shared a quote from H.L. Mencken about the choices political candidates must make, which concludes: “As democracy matures, the office represents, more closely, the inner spirit of the people. We are moving toward the ideal. “On a great and glorious day, ordinary earthlings will finally fulfill their heart’s desire, and the White House will be adorned by a complete imbecile.”

Mary Trump, Trump’s niece and outspoken critic, wrote on X: “I’m so sorry. She thought better of us.”

Lili Reinhart said: “I can’t understand how the women who came forward about being sexually assaulted by Trump feel. Seeing millions of people voting in favor of their abuser. My heart absolutely breaks for these women. I believe you, and I’m so sorry.”

Christina Applegate was equally direct, writing on X, “Why? Give me your reasons why؟؟؟؟؟ my child is crying because her rights as a woman may be taken away. Why? And if you disagree, please unfollow me.

She later added: “Please unfollow me if you vote against women’s rights. Against disability rights. Yes that. Unfollow me because what I did is unrealistic. We don’t want followers like this so yes. Done. And also after today I’m going to close this fan account that I’ve had for many years because it’s sick.

John Cusack tweeted before the race was called, admitting that even the hope that Harris would win wasn’t enough. He wrote: “Harris may come through Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania – the fact that the country would choose to destroy itself by voting for a convicted criminal rapist and Nazi is a sign of deep nihilism, to put it mildly.”

Wendell Pierce thought about the future damage this election could do. He wrote on X: “Elections have consequences. The Supreme Court will be changed for an entire generation. I will never see a moderate court again in my lifetime. Alito and Thomas will step down and Trump will appoint 40-year-old partisans to the bench. The damage he is about to do to our institutions over the next two years will be irreparable.”

Director Adam McKay posted a lengthy rant on X when it became clear that Trump would take the White House. “Who would have thought that lying about Biden’s cognitive health for two years, refusing to hold an open convention for a new candidate, never mentioning public health care and embracing fracking, the Cheneys and slaughtering children in Gaza for a year wouldn’t be a ‘winning’ strategy?” McKay wrote.

“Well, at least it’s time for hackers and professionals to spread their feathers wide after the election, blaming Russia and third-party candidates. That should fix things.”

Armando Iannucci retweeted a post from Elon Musk, noting, “Musk reminds us that Trump’s near total denial of the climate emergency means the Earth is now on its way to total collapse.”

Russell Brand took the opposite side, posting on X, “Donald Trump won.” He added: “The world is about to become a very different place… What does this Trump win mean for America?”
