Disney Branded Television has greenlit two music-driven live-action sitcoms. How we became the biggest band in the world (working title) and Vampires (working title). Both are set to premiere next year on Disney Channel and Disney+.
The series orders are part of a strategy by Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, to build a new Disney Channel and Disney+ lineup of multi-camera sitcoms for children’s audiences. The new slate began rolling out this week with a complementary series Wizards Beyond Waverly PlaceExecutive produced by Selena Gomez.
“How we became the biggest band in the world (weight) and Vampires Davis said: “(By Weight) are two outstanding additions to the Disney Channel’s roster of comedies. “Both new series are full of all the elements we know our young audience loves: ambitious and relatable characters, upbeat music, lots of laughter, friendship and heart.”
How we became the biggest band in the world (wt) follows three members of the iconic pop band, Electric Bloom, as they look back and tell the story of their band and friendship, starting with the day they all met in middle school. The girls go on a journey to become the biggest band in the world and the best friends in the universe.
The series stars Lomi Pollack (Fallout) as Poussey, newcomer Carmen Sanchez as Jade, newcomer Ruby Marino as Tulip, and Nathaniel Boucher (Circuit breakers) as Lucas.
Eric Friedman serves as showrunner and executive producer along with writers and executive producers Alex Fox and Rachel Lewis. Renowned songwriter Diane Warren and Bahareh Batmang are executive producers, and Warren wrote the songs in the pilot episode. Judy Hahn directed and executive produced the pilot.
Vampires (by weight), based on the books by Anne Marie Pace and illustrations by LeUyen Pham, and inspired by the Disney Jr. animated series. Vampires From Chris Nee. The movie is about a teenage vampire girl who leaves the safety of Transylvania to attend a boarding school for the performing arts. Living among humans for the first time, she pursues her passion for music while keeping her secret as a vampire, which is made more difficult when her overprotective father accuses an overzealous ghost of living with her at the school.
The series stars newcomer Kenzie Richardson as Vee, Jiwon Lee (Get up, sing) As Sophie, Sean Dixon (neighborhood) as Elijah, Milo Maharlika (Les Miserables National Broadway Tour) as Demi and newcomer Faith Headley as Brittany.
Randy Barnes serves as showrunner and executive producer. Tim Federle and Bronwyn North-Rest are executive producers. Kimberly McCullough directed and executive produced the pilot.
