Kevin Costner admitted he’s in no hurry to see the midseason premiere of his new western drama “Yellowstone,” adding that he just found out it was back Sunday night.
The actor, who played John Dutton on the Paramount Network series for 4.5 seasons, told Michael Smerconish: “I found out this morning already.” SiriusXM on Monday morning.
“I’m going to be completely honest, I didn’t know it actually aired last night. It’s an ‘I swear to God’ moment. I mean I was seeing ads in my face everywhere and saying: ‘Wow, I’m not in this ad. I’m not in this season. Costner said: “But I didn’t realize it was yesterday.”
In the two years since the Season 5 premiere of “Yellowstone” aired, the actor and director has been busy with his own western movie series, “Horizon: An American Saga.”
Costner said: “I was focused on what I had to do and I had to make some calls,” Costner said. “Sometimes I’m just a passenger in my life. There’s a lot going on. Someone said: ‘You know he showed up last night,’ and I was like, ‘Okay, okay.
While he said he only heard about his character’s fate, he’s confident that series creator Taylor Sheridan will do his job well for viewers.
“No, I didn’t. [see it]. That’s your job,” Costner said: “I gave it five seasons,” revealing that he didn’t initially plan to stay that long. “I didn’t even know I was going to do it for so long, there were several times where I talked about possible endings for me.”
“They’re smart people; whatever they do, they’ll figure it out. But yeah, I came up with two possible endings when I didn’t want to go for a long time… I didn’t see it, I heard it was suicide, so it doesn’t make me want to do it. Hurry up and go see him.”
We won’t spoil it too much for you, but John’s time on the show ends in Season 5, Episode 9.
