Marvel Studios debuted a special new trailer for “Thunderbolts*” at the first-ever D23 event in Brazil on Saturday. David Harbour, who starred in the film as the Red Guardian after making his debut in “Black Widow,” was present at the event and introduced the trailer.
The nearly four-minute clip begins with a scene showing Harbour, Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell and Olga Kurylenko driving the Red Guardian’s car, apparently to evade SHIELD forces. The four soon notice that Bucky Barnes, also known as the Winter Soldier, is following them on a motorcycle and are excited: “This guy, he’s so cool,” Harbor’s Alexei Shostakov says admiringly, before Bucky shoots his vehicle.
“This is not good,” says Yelena Belova from Bug, “this is not good.
The group then meets at Stark Tower, now owned by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), who notes that “the place wasn’t cheap, but it had good optics.”
“Look at you,” he continues. “You’re all so gorgeous.”
Marvel first revealed images from the movie in July at San Diego Comic-Con. Like DC’s Suicide Squad, Marvel’s squad of villains came together to complete a series of missions for the government. Harbour, Pugh, Russell, Stan and Louis-Dreyfus attended the event, with Harbour wearing a full Red Guardian costume. Pugh, while addressing the audience, described the movie as “very cool, very weird and very brave.”
The first official trailer was released in September and featured footage shown at Comic-Con. Jake Schreier is directing Thunderbolts* (the asterisk is intentional but the secret behind it has yet to be revealed) with Kevin Feige as producer. Luis D’Esposito, Brian Chapek, Jason Tamez, and Scarlett Johansson are executive producers.
“Thunderbolts*” is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 2, 2025.
