Michelle Norris joined MSNBC as a senior contributing editor after resigning from The Washington Post

Michelle Norris is joining MSNBC as a senior contributing editor, after resigning as a Washington Post columnist last month to protest owner Jeff Bezos’ decision not to endorse the presidential race.

Rachel Maddow made the announcement this evening on MSNBC’s election preview special, which Norris joined. On election night, Norris will be at Howard University, the site of the Harris-Walls campaign’s watch party.

Norris will also be a frequent writer for MSNBC.com.

Bezos defended the decision to block the newspaper’s planned certification by citing polls that showed a decline in trust in the media. But the decision led to a backlash, with more than 200,000 people dropping their digital subscriptions, according to NPR.

After resigning from the paper, Norris wrote on X, “The Washington Post’s decision to withhold an endorsement that was written and approved in an election where basic democratic principles are at stake was a huge mistake and an affront to the paper’s long-standing standards.” from endorsing candidates regularly since 1976.

She added: “The reason given in no way justifies the paper abandoning its role in informing and guiding voters as it did in endorsing in other key races this year, and as it did in endorsing candidates who were running against Trump in 2016 and 2020.”

Norris was a columnist for The Washington Post from 2019 through 2024. Prior to that, she co-hosted the NPR program. All things considered From 2002 to 2011.
