The Aragon Cross Country Cup starts this Sunday in Alcañiz in the year of its silver jubilee.

Time to prepare the spikes and lace up the shoes before jumping into the mud. The athletes Aragonese athletes are getting ready, starting this weekend, to battle it out at the Aragon Cup of cross that also meets 25 years this season. The fabulous environment of The Estanca de Alcañiz will host on Sunday the first stop of a circuit consisting of up to six races to be held throughout the Community. In addition to the city of La Concordia, they will be held in Sabiñánigo, Pedrola, Zuera, Mas de las Matas and La Almunia.

The waiting is over and the real fire begins. Swords are raised among those who have been preparing for weeks for the winter season and who will test their strength for the first time this season in the Tierra Baja. They will do it, in addition, in a typical cross-country circuit, with jumps and slopes, next to the iconic Estanca de Alcañiz and also in the vicinity of the international circuit of Motorland Aragón.

The alcañizana test promises several hundreds of athletes in competition since, in addition, it will be provincial school championship and regional championship by clubs, being a qualifier for the national championship. Thus, the event promises to have all the top athletes who will be looking for a place in the national Spanish Championship to be held in Italica (Seville), one of the most prestigious cross country races in the national athletic panorama. The prize will be double.

As for the distancesThe absolutes will have to comply with a total of 8,000 meters in the men’s race and 6,500 in the women’s race. In turn, the mixed relay will have four laps (one per runner) of 1,500 meters each. Luis Pastor and Paloma Aznar, from Intec Zoiti and Alcampo-Scorpio 71 respectively, are the reigning champions of the Aragon Cross Country Cup.

THE REST OF THE RACES

After warming up in Alcañiz this Sunday, November 3the Aragon Cup of cross country will continue on November 24 in Sabiñánigo. After the Alto Aragonese race will move to Pedrola (01/12); Zuera (15/12); Mas de las Matas (12/01) and, finally, will culminate in La Almunia (19/01).
