Two people are dead and another has been seriously injured this Monday in New York after being stabbed with a kitchen knife by the same man in different areas of Manhattan.
The suspect, who remains in custody, is a. 51-year-old Hispanic male who resides in a shelter. in the city and who has been arrested on eight occasionsThe last time was in October, Joseph Kenny, the city’s chief of detectives, told a press conference Monday.
For his part, the mayor, Eric Adams, stressed to the media that the police believe that the suspect also has mental problems: “These attacks are a clear example of a criminal justice and mental health system that continues to fail New Yorkers,” he added.
The series of attacks began at 8:22 a.m. in the morning on 19th Street (on the west side), when the alleged killer stabbed a man in the abdomen 36-year-old Hispanic man who was working at a construction site and ultimately died.
Later, about 10:27 a.m.on 30th Street (on the east side, near the river), the individual stabbed several times all over the body at a 68-year-old Asian man who was fishing at the time and who also ended up dead.
In the meantime, the injured person is a 36-year-old black woman. who was stabbed by this subject multiple times around 10:55 a.m. between 42nd Street (east) and First Avenue. The victim was transported to Cornell Medical Center where she is in serious condition.
