The US Justice has postponed this Tuesday the sentencing of the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trumpby falsifying business records in the case of bribery of pornographic film actress Stephanie Clifford, a.k.a. Stormy Daniels.
The court has informed in a brief note that the proceedings have been postponed. without further explanation in the midst of the doubts raised before the inauguration in January of the tycoon, who will remain at the helm of the White House for four years, according to Bloomberg.
Judge Juan Merchan already postponed last Tuesday the summons to decide whether the reading of the sentence would finally take place on November 26, citing that the parties would thus have more time for assess the impact of the election on the case. Trump’s defense insists the conviction should be dismissed.
Trump was convicted in May on a total of 34 charges.when he was not even confirmed as the Republican Party’s official nominee for the White House. The judge held him responsible for falsifying documents to conceal a payment of 130,000 to Danielswhom he paid not to talk about an alleged extramarital affair.
The case of classified documents found in his Mar-a-Lago, Florida residence, was dismissed in Julyand two other cases related to the January 6, 2021 Capitol assault are expected to face the same challenges.
