Watch Daniel Donato go cosmic on Fender’s New Buck Owens Telecaster program

Red, White and Twang: Cosmic guitarist Daniel Donato recently acquired a new Fender Buck Owens for his Instagram feed, proving that Tele can deliver everything from traditional tones to modern, smooth tones. This signature model pays tribute to the country legend’s iconic “Bakersfield Sound.”

The story behind this guitar

Buck Owens’ original American flag-inspired guitar helped make him one of the defining voices of Bakersfield’s bright and shiny sound in the ’60s. His guitar was as distinctive as Owens’ signature style, representing an early alternative to Nashville’s polished productions. It made him stand out on stage, that’s for sure!

From Bakersfield to the drawing board

The Fender Custom Shop worked hard to get every detail of the original Owens guitar just right, with glossy red, silver, and patriotic blue finishes that light up the stage just like the original Buck.

“Buck’s Telecaster wasn’t just a guitar – it was a statement about the power of country music to rock.”

Justin Norvell, Executive Vice President of Fender Products.

Stunning design with an unbelievably refined touch

This guitar starts with a chunky, late-50s C-shaped profile and a one-piece maple neck, topped with a string-friendly 7.25-inch radius. It performs well enough, and you can see it here.

Where Tradition Meets Cosmic Height

In Donato’s hands, the guitar proved its versatility, easily switching from classic Bakersfield tone to “cosmic exploration”. Custom pickups provide a quick and unmistakable Tele pickup with all the output a modern player might need. As it turns out, the guitar can be both traditional and modern.
