If a hit song gets enough attention, it will be played over and over again years. That’s what happened to these four wonders that had at least one hit. We still very much admire these well-loved wonders, but one cannot deny that they were overrated at some point. Let’s take a look!
1. “Someone I Used to Know” by Gotti
If you were straight and sober in 2011, chances are you were bombarded with this song multiple times a day for several months. “Someone I Used to Know” by Gotye is an excellent song, don’t get us wrong. Hit no. 1 on the Hot 100 (and many, many more. a lot other charts) for some reason. However, radio stations became very happy with the song and played it repeatedly for a long time.
2. “Amplified Kicks” by Foster the People
Ah, “Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster The People. This catchy song was a huge hit in indie pop in 2010. In fact, the song was so catchy that it took a long time for the audience to separate the lyrics and realize that it was actually about a psychotic school shooter. Still, “Pumped Up Kicks” remains a real jam and deserves its spot at No. 1. 3 on the Hot 100 that year.
3. “Bad Day” by Daniel Potter
When it comes to hit wonders, Daniel Powter’s “Bad Day” is a song that’s hard to beat. Almost every playlist in existence that compiles the best songs of the mid-2000s includes this song. It was a huge pop-rock hit and was widely used in TV commercials and movies throughout the 2000s and into the 2000s.
4. “Take Me” by A-Ha
This 1984 one-hit wonder may have been overrated for a while, but we’re not complaining. This A-Ha tune is a great synthpop song that didn’t go anywhere. No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart that year.
“Take On Me” is still legendary material to this day, and A-Ha proved that it’s very possible to release a song that lasts and remains beloved for decades. We dare you not to try to use that high note in the chorus when this song comes on.
