Cher’s memoir is full of details about her personal life, including her marriage to Sonny Bono and Gregg Allman.

In an excerpt from “Cher: The Memoirs, Part 1” published by People, The Pop Goddess writes that Allman once ended their relationship with a handwritten note, all because she returned to work on the new show “Sonny & Cher” with her ex-husband Sonny.

Allman and Cher married days after the singer’s divorce from Bono was finalized. She then found out she was pregnant with her son, Elijah Blue, just before the show aired in 1976. Apparently, the Allman Brothers Band musician couldn’t believe she was actually pregnant and was more concerned about his belief that the tabloids and newspapers were “creating a sexy new love triangle” between the trio.

Cher wrote that she found a letter from Allman that said: “I have two choices: Go back to Macon and be lonely and heartbroken, or stay here and deceive myself, the latter of which I cannot do simply because I am a man and very good. She filed to end their marriage nine days later, but they eventually reconciled and remained married until 1979.

In an interview with the New York Times published on Monday, Cher also said that Bono stole money from her during their marriage. He explained: “He took all my money.” “I just thought: We’re husband and wife. Half the stuff is his, half the stuff is mine. “It didn’t occur to me that there was any other way.”

The musical duo were best known for their TV series, but Cher said their behind-the-scenes relationship was sometimes more like that of a father and son. Cher, who was 16 when she met Bono, 27, moved in with her future husband to avoid her mother. The couple married a few years later and had two children together.

Bono set up their business together with Cher as his employee, which allowed him to take money from her in the first place. “To this day,” he noted, “I wish God would ask me: ‘Son, at what time and on what day did you say, ‘Yes, you know what? I’m going to take your money.”
