Israel has made use of white phosphorus, an incendiary chemical capable of causing “horrific and painful injuries,” on at least 24 occasions in the ongoing conflict in Gaza, charges a report released Friday by the United Nations Office of the UN for Human Rights, which once again singles out Israeli forces for possible crimes of genocide, war crimes or crimes against humanity.
The report, which focuses primarily on six months of the conflict between November 2023 and April 2024, lists, among others, six uses of the incendiary weapon in the Gaza capital.nine in the center of the Strip and three in Khan Younis, some of them in refugee camps.
The office headed by high commissioner Volker Türk “verified an incident on December 25 in which. a baby was burned by white phosphorus in a school in the Al Bureij camp,” said the 32-page document, which collected testimonies from medical professionals in Gaza.
