Will.i.am released a new song titled “Yes She Can” to show his support for Kamala Harris.
The Black Eyed Peas leader shared the short acoustic song along with a music video that includes footage from the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol and the protesters who defended Roe v. Wade. It also depicts citizens casting their votes.
“Mama, what’s wrong with America / Why can’t we coexist in America / There’s something going on in America / People are enjoying the predator,” the rapper sings as the song begins. “We’re all immigrants with different personalities / But together, you know, we can break barriers / So register and vote for your life / Do it for your daughters, your sons, your wife / If you’re a woman, vote for your rights / Don’t let them take yours / We can be better than we’ve ever been / We’re about to have a president.”
William wrote in a statement: “This is a heartfelt anthem that celebrates Kamala Harris and the power of every people,” William wrote in a statement. “As Election Day approaches, I wanted to capture the movement, a call to action, and a promise of what we can accomplish together.”
“Join me as we shine a light not only on Kamala Harris’ journey and the change that is coming, but also on the everyday heroes and #PowerfulWomen who are bringing the world to life. 🙌🏾 This is a celebration of resilience, hope, and an unstoppable spirit.
Will.i.am wrote and released several songs during Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, including “Yes We Can” and “We Are the Ones.” After the 2008 election, William debuted “It’s a Good Day,” a tune that Black Eyed Peas recorded and promised to release if Obama won the presidency.
